Braunfeld & Grosz
Monostorpályi · Szendrő · Sajószentpéter · Miskolc · Kecskemét · Erdőtelek · Baja · New Orleans · Milwaukee
Golda (Gizella) Braunfeld, wife of Farkas Wiesner, was born at Sajószentpéter in 1871 and died at Auschwitz on 13/14 June 1944. Her photograph survives on a Salvadoran protection certificate of 16 September 1942.
Her father Ignácz (Yitzchak) Braunfeld was born about 1818 at Monostorpályi in Bihar and died at Sajószentpéter on 2 September 1892; his gravestone names him “son of R’ David … his mother’s name Mirl”. Ignácz was the mohel at the birth of his grandson Dávid Wiesner in 1891. Golda’s mother Juli (Rivka Leah) Grosz died on 7 March 1917 — proven from her gravestone; her parents were possibly Jónás Grosz, arendator of Sajószentpéter, and Leni Roth.
Ignácz married twice. His first wife Czily Grosz was the mother of Rosi (b. about 1846 at Szendrő) and of Rabbi Sámuel Braunfeld, later rabbi of Erdőtelek (d. 1917). With Juli he had the children born between 1852 and 1872, first at Szendrő and, from the early 1860s, at Sajószentpéter: József (1852, cantor of Baja), Czilli (1855), Teréz (Rézi, 1856), Dávid (1858, assistant rabbi of Kecskemét), Ábrahám (Adolf, 1859, a cantor), Ferencz (1862), Jonás (Cantor Julius of New Orleans, 1863), Simon Sándor (1865), Perecz (1869, of whom nothing more is known), Golda (1871) and Zsigmond (1872), who became George Sigmund Braunfeld of Milwaukee. Ignácz himself was the community’s shochet, cantor and mohel — a family of synagogue servants from him down.

Newly found records
- Golda (Gizella) Wiesner née Braunfeld was born in April 1871 at Sajószentpéter (two certificate records). A memorial record from a son names her parents as Yitzchak and Rivka. One list compiled from religious books gives her death as 19 May 1944; other records give June 1944, and the site keeps 13/14 June. Probable
- The children of Jónás Grosz of Sajószentpéter — Simon, Farkas, Fülöp and Debora — join the tree; the records are Proven, the kinship to Juli stays Possible. Johanna née Breszlauer, József Braunfeld’s wife, is added (Proven). Possible
- Ignácz Braunfeld’s children are now on the tree, each with its grade: Rabbi Sámuel and Rosi (his first wife Czily Grosz’s children, Proven), Teréz, Dávid, Ferencz and Simon Sándor (Proven — their own marriage or death records name Ignácz and Juli), József, Czilli, Ábrahám (Adolf) and Zsigmond (Probable). The 1900 census of Miskolc shows Zsigmond, born 1872 at Sajószentpéter, with a wife and daughter from Kroměříž in Moravia — the same family as George Sigmund Braunfeld of Milwaukee (Probable). Cantor Julius’s wife Meta and children Charles and Gilda are added too (Probable). Proven / Probable
- Cantor Julius Braunfeld of Temple Sinai, New Orleans (b. Sajószentpéter 17 July 1863, d. 1921), is now on the tree as Ignácz Braunfeld’s son, Golda’s brother: the American Jewish Year Book of 1903 calls him “Son of Ignacz Braunfeld”, and so does his death record. His 1922 portrait is in the gallery. Proven
